Fun fact Reader: I’ve lived in eight countries and moved between them 13 times.*
Okay, depending on who you are, that might not exactly be a fun fact, more like a nightmare worse than realizing you don’t have any coffee left in the house on Monday morning (I know, blood-curdling thought 😨).
But while the globetrotter thing got started by my parents, I enthusiastically kept going after I left home (eight of those 13 moves I did solo as an adult).
Now though, I’ve been in Berlin quite a long time (for me) – almost seven years. And that’s not always a comfy thing for me. I was recently thinking about what it is that I miss about moving. There are a lot of things – I love getting submerged in new cultures, being kicked out of routines and building new ones, meeting different people, the list goes on – but I realized the biggest one comes down to …
The freedom of reinvention
Now, I’m not some spy à la Alias that dons a completely new identity when I move. But I realized that moving hyper-accelerated my personal growth because I had the space to shed things that no longer served me and try out new things.
Without people complaining that I’d “changed”. Without peeps that knew me from childhood thinking they knew what was best for me. Without running into exes of any kind - love, work, friendship - that threw me back.
Not having that space to grow without feeling constricted by what I’d built around me is something that I’ve been missing.
And I realized I miss it in my work too. Since I started my storytelling & podcasting strategy work, it has run under my name. My name was my business, and my business was me.
But I’m more than what I do. We all are. But peeps – like you – are genuinely coming to me for a specific thing. So it started to feel like I couldn’t be all of me because that’s not relevant to you. Don’t get me wrong – I love storytelling & podcasting and could talk about that all day long. Yet that – not getting to be whoever I want to be under my own freaking name – that sucked.
I’m not someone that wallows successfully, though. Oh, I give it the old college try: I’ll be grumpy, complain, and self-sabotage by not showing up for a minute, but that’ll get boring fast. I’m more of a solutions person.
The solution? Separating my name from my business 🤯.
Okay, I know that mind-blowing emoji is a bit exaggerated, but it did feel like a big thing for me to stop making myself my brand. The brand that my storytelling & podcasting strategy will now live under?
Tell on Purpose
Yes, I clearly love multi-tiered names 😄. If it’s interesting to you, I’ll do a separate email breaking the name down/generally share some thoughts about branding, names, and how to come up with non-boring and not-already-taken-names that you love (hit reply to let me know if you’d want that). But for now, I’ll stick to what actually matters: What that means for YOU.
First, a quick (re)introduction: Hi, I’m Kat (she/her), a podcasting & storytelling strategist helping bold business owners create a podcast that makes them the orca of their industry’s ocean (aka the biggest, baddest, most big-hearted thing around).
Moving forward, expect to hear from me via the Inside Story newsletter (like you are right now!), your compass for creating (audio) stories that make waves. I’ll dissect a bunch of stuff – from books to ad copy – to show you how you can apply different techniques to make your stories stand out; give you a backstage pass to the creation process of gripping tales; and package it all in entertaining/funny/eye-rolling stories of my own.
Basically, I’ll go deep-sea diving for you to pick the storytelling & podcasting pearls that’ll help you craft stories that reel listeners in, put you at the helm of your industry’s ship, and blow your goals out of the water.
If that doesn’t sound helpful to you, no worries – feel free to unsubscribe from the list. No hard feelings!
Next up, I’m going to send you a cool little resource I created that will help you know what tech & tools are actually worth it without endless googling and hours choosing between a gazillion options.
Keep your eye on your inbox for that!
In the meantime, I have one quick Q for you that’ll help me make sure I send the most-relevant-to-you-info your way (simply click on the statement that matches you to log your answer):
I want to launch a podcast
I want to grow my existing podcast
Hope you’ve had a great start to the year so far – I’m definitely excited to embark on this exciting new journey with you!
* Want the full list? You’ll spot it under the “4 fun facts about me” section here. (Psssst, that’ll also make you get the first view of the brand-spanking-new-website that I’ll be officially announcing soon. So until then: 🤫😉.)

Hi from sunny Barcelona, Reader! ☀️💃 Since I'm in the birth country of tapas, it's only fitting today's Inside Story is a bite-sized assortment of all things creativity, podcasting, and monetization. Buen provecho! What inspires you to be creative? That's what a friend of mine, Nina, co-founder of IP consulting business Fruba, recently asked me. And I created a little video with my answer! Check it out on the right 👉 That also inspired me (funny how that works) to prioritize something that I...
This is not meant as a humblebrag, but I've been a guest on plenty of podcasts by now, Reader. And while some interviews I felt went better than others, I never thought "Uh-oh, I don't know if I want this to air" afterward. Until a couple of months back. Melissa, a great mindset coach I know, had announced she was launching the Founders’ Fears & Failures podcast to normalize mental health struggles + redefine failure in the startup ecosystem and was looking for guests. “I know something about...
Is there a topic you’re super passionate about that you feel isn’t getting covered enough or properly, Reader? Feel like your unique perspective is missing, but don’t feel ready to jump in the ring? Brand Strategist & Content Marketer Cassandra Le was in the same spot. After months of standing on the sidelines, though, they decided to do something about it and launched the “I’m lost, so what?” podcast to explore the nuances of “belonging” and carving your own path as multicultural, hyphenated...
